In the last few days, Jeremy Hunt has been appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer. I welcome this very much.  Jeremy is a fine individual and a great politician and I have supported him in his desire to become Leader of the Party in previous elections.

John comments on bank branch closures

I wrote about bank closures and access to cash in March when I was advised that the last two branches of Barclays within the constituency were closing. Now Nat West have decided to do the same thing and close their last two branches located with the constituency.

John reports back on mission to Bosnia & Herzegovina

Further to my piece on Friday 30th September I am now able to report back on the mission to observe the presidential election in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The UK members of the delegation also included Lord Russell and Lord Keen.

John joined fellow MPs in taking an oath of allegience to the Crown. This is done when an MP is first elected and can also be repeated after the death of the Monarch.

I join with people from across the world to express my deep sadness at the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathies to King Charles III, the Queen Consort and all of the Royal Family at their loss.

What a difference a few years make. An empty inbox on Townlands Memorial Hospital. Very few complaints about what is a first class hospital. Beds for patients set up in the neighbouring care home, originally put in at the request of some sections of the town - given back to the care sector.

John presents Petition on Schools Bill

The Schools Bill, which is currently going through parliamentary process, has raised some concerns for people who home school their children. Many of those concerned have signed a public petition to be presented in the House as a way of bringing the concerns to the attention of the Minister.

John's comment on Boris Johnson

This is a short statement on my position with regards to Boris Johnson. In my discussion with the Whips and others I have indicated my view that he should step down. I understand that he has now said that he will resign.
